I think he managed to manifest the human brainwaves into molecules/particles, which took form/life, and well, someone who had experienced extensive amount of horror would be able to be a "host" for these molecules/brainwaves of the Walrider. In the cinema he absolutely disregard it being a supernatural being. He believes it is a supernatural being, and the Dr.Undergroundlab-guy fooled MURKOFF into believing it was a supernatural being, just as he did with the nazis during WW2. The word "witness" and "spread the gospel" was written many places in the asylum, in blood, and Martin (the priest) believed that "one must witness true horror to be able to call upon the Walrider". It was basically a nightmare taking living form. What if the Walrider actually wasn't a supernatural being? Well, it wasn't.

I hated the ending at first, but then I started pondering. Seeing as the Walrider probably has something to do with MURKOFF's nanotech, it can probably heal a host, just as easily as it can destroy someone (i.e, Chris).
